Reflection
The classroom document that I chose to reflect on was the teacher’s
schedule and objectives that she had written on the board. I think it is very
important for the teacher to have the schedule posted somewhere in the room for
student to be able to refer to as well as administrators who come into the
classroom. The objectives also help the students as well as the teacher see
exactly what they will be learning today as well as their goal throughout the
lesson. I was afraid that the schedule would have to be moved around in order
for me to teach and the teacher and I planned everything out beforehand and
there was no reason to change the schedule. Most of the students seemed to
understand how the day went and knew when they were supposed to be changing
activities. The teacher did a really nice job of keeping on task and not running
instruction time into recess or lunch time. If she did run out of time she
simply told her students that they would pick up where they left off the next
day.
I think it is really important to stay on schedule because it allows you
to stay on task and to know exactly what will be happening throughout the day.
Also the children get used to having a routine everyday and it makes it easier
on the whole classroom if everyone is aware of what is going on. The teacher
also has their homework written on the board which allows students to copy down
whatever is written into their assignment books so they have no excuse as to why
they do not have their homework the next day. My teacher was very organized and
this definitely helped the students and kept them organized. The teacher was a
big believer in students figuring many things out on their own if it was posted
somewhere on the board or on a rubric because students need to be able to figure
out how to solve some of their problems on their own.
In my future classroom, I want to have a schedule posted on my board or
somewhere in the classroom where students and administrators are able to refer
to it whenever they need to. I am not a very organized person but after being
able to work in this classroom for two weeks it has given me many ideas for how
to keep things on track and organized. Having the objectives written on the
board will also help me as a teacher to refer to if we get off track to be able
to see the main objective of the lesson and to help refresh my memory if I
forget what we should be doing. I believe having a schedule and written
objectives on the board will help keep my class organized and will help with
classroom management. It is important for students to be in a routine that they
feel comfortable with and they will need to refer to the schedule during the
first couple weeks of school to get adjusted to the classroom.
